About Eka Gotsiridze

Eka Gotsiridze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. She graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts with MA degree in Fashion Design. During her student years, Eka got involved in several projects: designed costumes for award-winning ballet films: "Improvisation" and "Divertissements", and participated in and got a high appraisal of her work in numerous student Fashion shows in Georgia, Russia, Estonia, Yugoslavia and Italy. Eka didn't limit herself to design only and has also written and produced the TV documentary "The History of Fashion of the 20-th Century" for one of the popular TV networks. Immediately after graduation, Eka took up a position as a fashion designer for a well-known clothing company in Georgia. She was also invited to teach a course in fashion illustration at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1993 Eka moved to Cyprus. Thanks to very good drawing skills she had an opportunity to work on various creative projects, such as designing corporate clothing styles and graphic illustrations for corporate clients including the Bank of Cyprus. She has also participated in numerous art exhibitions, presenting her oil paintings, and has done a lot of commissioned work for art collectors. From 2001 until 2008 Eka lived and worked in Georgia. During this period she ran the production of a small exclusive series of one-of-a-kind handmade felt coats, which were sold throughout the boutiques in London. She was also commissioned to create trendy designs for the performers and staff of the hippest nightclub in Tbilisi and did fashion illustration work for Amarta magazine. In 2004/2006 Eka held several successful solo shows that showcased her newer body of work, consisting of fashion illustration prints and drawings. At this time she extended her artistic endeavors to design; creating a series of hand-crafted mirrors for Tagiss Arts Gallery, receiving critical acclaim from the viewers and the media. Eka became a member of the "Georgian Artist's Union" and was included in the "Encyclopedia of Georgian Artists". 2008 Eka moved to Cyprus. Experience gained by engagement in such a wide diversity of art practices provoked Eka to find her own, unique way of expressing all her artistic aspirations, using all the knowledge and skills built up through the years. She took time to clarify her vision, experimenting with new media, techniques, color, and completely immersed herself into the new journey of creating a series of mixed media portraits. In 2011 Eka was commissioned to design outfits for the Georgian team to wear at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. In 2017 Eka moved back to Georgia and currently works and lives in Tbilisi.
